Who We Are
Boone County Emergency Medicine is an independent, physician-owned Emergency Medicine group that provides care in and around central Indiana. We are affiliated with three hospital systems: Witham Health Services, Major Health Partners, and Johnson Memorial Hospital. Witham Health Services has two emergency departments: at its main campus in Lebanon, Indiana, and a free-standing emergency department at the Anson campus in Zionsville, Indiana. Major Hospital is in Shelbyville, Indiana. Johnson Memorial is in Franklin, Indiana.
History of the Group
Boone County Emergency Medicine was born as Lafayette Emergency Physicians in November 1982 in Lafayette, Indiana. “LEP,” as it was known, expanded to Witham Health Services in September 2006. The group also staffed IU Health Arnett Hospital (Lafayette, Indiana) from 2008 until 2013. We have been providing care at Witham’s free-standing ED at Anson since it opened in 2009. In 2014 we established our relationship with Major Hospital in Shelbyville, Indiana. In 2020, we partnered with Johnson Memorial Hospital to provide emergency care. The group has grown from four “founding fathers” to a group of about 40 board-certified physicians and advanced practice providers.
Our Mission
We are committed to providing excellent clinical care with a personal touch to the residents of central Indiana and surrounding areas.
Our Vision
Our vision is to be our communities’ Emergency Medicine healthcare provider of choice, while expanding the reach of our hospitals’ systems and being the preeminent leader in clinical care and service. We measure excellence by objective criteria and established best practices, and are constantly evolving to meet and exceed these goals.
Our Values
We believe that not only should the quality of care be excellent, but that truly outstanding emergency medical care means treating patients and their families with compassion, respect and dignity. We value hard work, and have a constant drive for improvement, both as individual providers and as a group. We embrace our role in our communities, not just as clinicians, but as active participants in the areas we serve. We take pride in having close relationships with the administrators and clinical leaders (physician and nursing) in our hospital systems. We believe that in the changing environment of medical care, the only way to be a driving force is to not just have a seat at the table, but to have a positive close relationship with the others at the table.
Why Central Indiana?
Our clinical sites are not just great places to work, but are also part of thriving communities that we call “home.”
Zionsville, Indiana is known for being a sought-after “up-and-coming” town just northwest of Indianapolis. In fact, it was named the 2nd Best Suburbs in America by Business Insider (2014); one of the top 10 small towns in the US, and the safest small town in America (by Movoto Real Estate Blog, 2014). Zionsville public schools are consistently in the top 5 in the state. The town’s downtown area is known as the “village” and includes plenty of dining, entertainment, shopping, and cultural options.
Shelbyville, Indiana also has a lot to offer. It is a small town with a big heart, with its close proximity to Indianapolis providing easy access to the benefits of the city, while still maintaining its small-town appeal. For example, its historic Mainstreet Shelbyville area has a great mix of old and new shops, restaurants, and other businesses. Shelbyville is also home to Indiana GRAND Casino and horse track, which opened in 2009 and is now the largest land-based casino located in the Midwest. Residents of Shelbyville enjoy a very active Parks and Recreation Department that hosts sports, festivals, and other activities year-round.
Franklin, Indiana is only 20 minutes from downtown Indianapolis; it is a wonderful town that mixes tradition and small-town charm with innovation and growth. It was founded in 1823 and features Victorian mansions on several of its historic streets, but the downtown area is also a hub of eateries, coffee houses, shops, and cultural opportunities. Franklin is also home to Franklin College.
